Stair Wrought Iron Balusters have become very popular on these days. Nothing adds more impressive visual impact and value, than replacing those outdated stair wooden balusters with elegant Wrought Iron Balusters.

We can confirm that puddled wrought iron is indeed available, rolled to any size you like, in large or small batches as needed. It is re- rolled from original genuine heavy mooring chain, and is of a quality which surpasses the needs of smiths making architectural work.

The Real Wrought Iron Company is as far as we know the sole world supplier of genuine wrought iron. We supply to blacksmiths throughout the world, for use in the restoration of historic ironwork and the construction of high quality architectural ironwork commissions.

Established over 30 years ago by Chris Topp, we believe we are the only supplier of this wonderful material nowadays, and the craftsmen working at our sister company Topp & Co. are experts in its use. We source our genuine wrought iron from all over the country and are always looking to buy genuine wrought iron. We hope this site acts as a useful guide for both the services we offer and also answer any queries you might have about wrought iron as a material.

This material is completely different to pure iron, owing to the presence within the matrix of the iron, of up to 5% of silicate slags, distributed throughout the section as fibres. It is these slag fibres which give wrought irons their unique properties, including superb weldability ( in the fire) and resistance to corrosion.

We would be very happy to expand upon the unique and superior properties of wrought iron, if you are interested. Suffice to say, that no refined modern metal can be regarded as a substitute, unless of course someone comes up with one containing the slag fibres! As regards costs, these are comparable with any small production ferrous alloy, and sit somewhere between those of stainless steels and the cheaper bronzes.

Woodstairs.com offers a great selection of iron balusters. These balusters are also called spindles. So if you hear that your contractor is getting your balusters or spindles they are referring to the same part that goes into your staircase. We offer a wide range of solid and hollow wrought iron baluster styles and designs in several standard Powder Coat Colors. Look under any of our wrought iron products to see these finishes. Solid versions include more varieties and are slightly stronger while the hollow versions are less expensive and easier to cut to length onsite. Also check our complete line of wrought iron baluster accessories, baluster shoes, adhesives and iron baluster installation tools and hardware. If none of the balusters on our site fit your needs feel free to contact us and we can usually make the design you are looking for. Use our exclusive StairBuilder to design your balustrade before you buy.

Wrought iron balusters are not only versatile in design but in price range. There are numerous factors to consider that can help save money when deciding which balusters to purchase. First hollow balusters are dramatically less expensive than their solid counterparts and although the selection is not quite as vast there are still many design opportunities. Next you might consider mixing some inexpensive balusters with the more ornate and expensive ones to not only reduce cost but draw your attention to the more ornate sections. For example you might have a primary pattern of Scrolls or Butterflies, spaced with alternating Single and Double Twists. This can help make the design less busy and nicely space the key ornamental details of the design. Finally, while some iron balusters are more expensive than our wood alternatives, keep in mind that iron balusters come powder coated. This prefinished product will save you stain and/or paint costs later on which more often than not makes up the difference in initial cost.

You may notice that not all styles are the same width. For example, Wide Scroll Iron Balusters take up more space than simple straight iron balusters, so you may may only need one Scroll Iron Baluster and one straight iron baluster per linear foot. Give us a call if you have any questions about uniquely shaped iron balusters.

Get started on your iron baluster pattern design by choosing simple balusters, like the Single or Double Twist Iron Baluster, and add Single Basket Iron Baluster every 2 or 3 balusters. Then, if you want to accentuate a certain area, consider adding a statement piece from the Scroll Series, such as the Scroll Iron Baluster.

There is also a stunning line of wrought iron newels, larger iron posts to support your stairway handrail. Each iron baluster series has a coordinating iron newel design. We love how the homeowners in Project #234 used iron newels to tie the entire look together.

Available in both flat and angled, these decorative aluminum feet coordinate with all of the iron baluster styles. There are two thickness options, so be sure to choose the size that matches your selected iron balusters.

If your balusters are that much larger and you'd need closer spindles, the problem is going to be the holes you already have in there. It is going to be difficult to drill holes that are properly spaced out among the holes you'll already have in place. Seems to me like they would overlap and would offer no support. Your best bet might be to fill all the holes entirely then start over with new holes. New holes aren't necessarily hard, you just need to ensure that they are completely lined up on top and bottom.
